Use this guide to help determine the urgency of your pet's situation.
COME IN NOW — Life-Threatening
- Difficulty breathing or choking
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Collapse or unconsciousness
- Seizure lasting more than 3 minutes
- Suspected poisoning or toxin ingestion
- Hit by a car or major trauma
- Bloated, distended abdomen (GDV)
- Unable to urinate (especially male cats)
- Severe allergic reaction (swollen face)
- Open wounds with exposed bone
COME IN SOON — Urgent, Not Immediate
- Vomiting or diarrhea (more than 2-3 times)
- Not eating for more than 24 hours
- Limping or unable to bear weight
- Eye injury or sudden blindness
- Mild to moderate bleeding
- Difficulty giving birth (labor over 2 hours)
- Ingestion of foreign object
- Burns or heat stroke symptoms
- Persistent coughing or gagging
- Painful abdomen when touched

Keep Your Pet Calm
Speak softly and move slowly. Place cats in a carrier or pillowcase. For dogs, use a leash or place on a flat surface. Avoid handling injured areas.
Stop Any Bleeding
Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth. Do not apply a tourniquet. For eye injuries, keep the eye moist with saline if available but do not remove objects.
If Poisoning Suspected
Bring the packaging or substance your pet ingested. Do NOT induce vomiting unless specifically instructed by our veterinarian. Note the time of ingestion.
Drive Safely
We understand you're panicked, but arriving safely is critical. Have someone else drive if possible so you can focus on your pet. We're ready for you.
What to Bring
Bring any medications your pet takes, previous vet records (if available), and a form of payment. If ingestion is suspected, bring the substance or packaging.
